Thomas Padilla (Libraries) was a panelist at the Institute for Museum and Library Service's National Digital Platform at Three event in Arlington, Virginia, in October. He spoke on the greatest funding impacts and opportunities on the "Expanding Cultural Heritage Capacity" panel with speakers from the Internet Archive, WGBH, and the University of California at Riverside. He also participated in a workshop at the Digital Library Federation in Pittsburgh in October where he presented "Always Already Computational: Collections as Data." Collections as Data is an Institute of Museum and Library Services-supported effort that aims to foster a strategic approach to developing, describing, providing access to, and encouraging reuse of collections that support computationally driven research and teaching in areas including but not limited to digital humanities, public history, digital history, data-driven journalism, digital social science, and digital art history.
Additionally, Padilla was an invited speaker at the Librarians Association of the University of California, Berkeley Division Conference "Focus on the Visual: Digital Humanities and Libraries" in Berkeley in October. He spoke about the interaction between visual digital humanities and libraries.
