Scott Jackson (Accounting) and co-authors Paul E. Ordyna (University of Missouri-St. Louis) and Srinivasan C. Ragothaman (University of South Dakota) received the 2026 “Excellence in Accounting Ethics Education” Award from the Public Interest, Ethics and Sustainability Section of the American Accounting Association.
The award recognizes their case study, “A COVID-19-Related Fraud at Applied BioSciences Corp.: What Are the Lessons?”, published in the November 2025 issue of Issues in Accounting Education. The case presents a real-world COVID-19 fraud scheme that allows students to apply ethical reasoning, evaluate fraud risks, and assess corporate governance failures. By drawing on a shared global experience, the case provides a practical and engaging platform for examining social responsibility and the public interest, as well as preparing students to think critically about ethical challenges in future public health crises.
