Dr. Sam Matthys (Surgery) presented his abstract "E-Bikes on the Rise: A Retrospective Comparison of Pediatric Micromobility, Bicycle, and Motorcycle Injuries" at the 12th Annual Meeting of the Pediatric Trauma Society in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. This study observed and increasing incidence of children injured on E-Bikes presenting to the University Medical Center's Pediatric Trauma Center. Extremity fractures and traumatic brain injuries were the 2 most common types of injury observed across all groups. Helmet use was lower in E-bikes than motorcycles, and non-helmeted micromobility riders had a 3.5x increased risk of TBI.
