Robert Pelletier (PhD Biological Sciences, Spring 2026), Michael D. Treat, Frank van Breukelen, and Jef Jaeger (all School of Life Sciences) recently published a paper in the Journal of Experimental Zoology, titled "Higher Energy Demands and Lower Body Condition in a Hot Spring: Comparing Relict Leopard Frogs at Two Thermally Contrasting Sites." The research provides important insight into the thermal ecology of the relict leopard frog, showing that cold-water habitats can provide more favorable thermal conditions than hot springs where remnant populations historically persisted. The findings highlight how habitat temperature influences energy demands and body condition, with important implications for conservation and reintroduction efforts.
