Robert Cornell (Accounting) and his co-author, Rick Warne, recently authored “Navigating the Hostile Litigation Environment: Influence and Persuasion Insights for Newer Accounting Experts” in the peer-reviewed journal of The National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts (NACVA). JFIA is dedicated to advancing research in forensic accounting, fraud examination, litigation support, financial investigations, and related educational and professional practices. The article explores how accounting experts can communicate complex financial evidence more effectively in civil and criminal fraud litigation while recognizing and countering the psychological persuasion tactics commonly used in the courtroom. Drawing on behavioral accounting research and the authors’ expert witness experience, it provides practical guidance for improving critical thinking, credibility, and communication with attorneys, judges, and juries, while highlighting how emerging technologies such as AI-powered mock cross-examinations can enhance preparation for high-stakes testimony.
