Pearl Kim and Jay Shen (Healthcare Administration and Policy), Ji Yoo (Medicine), public health doctoral student Zahra Mojtahedi, and Ja Seol Koo, Hee-Taik Kang, Jinwook Hwang, and Moon Kyung Joo (all international visiting scholars from Korea) recently co-authored an article, "Palliative Care and Life-Sustaining/Local Procedures in Colorectal Cancer in the United States Hospitals: A Ten-Year Perspective" in Cancer Management and Research.
The study found that palliative care utilization increased over time and was inversely associated with hospital charges and performing procedures among colorectal cancer patients. The findings suggested that palliative care might be cost-effective and efficient option for some patients with a cancer includnig colorectal cancer.
