Min Ju Kang, Nathaniel LaBarre, Michael Karo, and Rachel Soong (all Medicine), under the mentorship of Thomas Vida, Ph.D. (Medicine), co-authored the study, “Illuminating Risk: An Ecological Analysis of Artificial Light at Night and Childhood Myopia Using State-Level US Data,” published in Risk Management and Healthcare Policy. The study used publicly available data from 46 U.S. states to examine associations between childhood myopia and environmental, behavioral, and healthcare-related factors. The analysis identified significant associations with artificial light at night, screen time, sleep patterns, Medicaid vision coverage, and vision screening, highlighting the multifactorial nature of childhood myopia and the potential importance of environmental and public health factors in childhood eye health.
