Micah Char (Medicine student) helped advance state public health advocacy at the 2025 Nevada State Medical Association (NSMA) Annual House of Delegates with the adoption of Resolution 10, Prohibit Speed Enhancements on E-Bikes and E-Scooters. He authored the resolution, which highlights the sharp rise in micromobility-related injuries and fatalities nationwide and in Nevada, with severe trauma linked to speed-enhanced devices and unhelmeted riding, particularly among youth and young adults.
Citing increasing strain on trauma centers, EMS services, and emergency departments, the policy calls for statewide regulation prohibiting aftermarket speed enhancement kits and requiring manufacturers and retailers to lock and clearly label factory-set speed limits. The resolution emphasizes injury prevention, youth safety, and evidence-based regulation to address a growing and preventable public health hazard.
