Claire Chen, Brianna Yee, Jenna Sutton, Sabrina Ho, Paul Cabugao, Natalie Johns, Raul Saucedo, Kaden Norman, Charlton H. Bassett, Kavita Batra, Aditi Singh (all Medicine), and Shane Sinclair from the University of Calgary published "The Validation of the Sinclair Compassion Questionnaire (SCQ) and SCQ Short Form in an English-Speaking U.S. Population" in Healthcare. The study validates the SCQ and SCQ-SF as reliable tools for measuring compassion in healthcare from the patient’s perspective in the U.S., aligning with previous international findings. These tools, widely regarded as the "gold standard," are now being validated for Spanish-speaking populations. Their adoption can empower providers in both inpatient and outpatient settings to integrate compassion into care, fostering improvements on both local and global scales. Chen led the project as a former internal medicine resident; Yee, Sutton, Ho, and Cabugao are current residents, and Johns, Saucedo, Norman, and Bassett are medical students. Singh, Batra, and Sinclair employed a group mentoring model to drive this scholarly achievement.
