Liahm Blank, Joshua Khorsandi, Nicole Kang, Kaloyan Momchilov, Itai Blank, and Kavita Batra (all Medicine) published a study titled “From Pantry to Physiology: A Narrative Review Linking Food Insecurity to Biological Dysfunction” in Dialogues in Health. The review highlights that food insecurity is not only a socioeconomic challenge but also a biologically embedded stressor associated with inflammation, neuroendocrine dysregulation, and increased allostatic load. The authors further describe how these mechanisms contribute to cardiometabolic, mental, and immune dysfunction, emphasizing the need for policy and public health interventions to address food insecurity and improve health equity.
