Kavita Batra and Deborah A. Kuhls (both Medicine) received a grant of $650,000 from the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Health Care Financing and Policing to conduct a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU)-related study.  The aim of this study is to investigate contributing factors of high cost of Medicaid expenditures and other negative outcomes among neonates in Nevada. The data of this study will serve as basis for maternal and child health quality improvement initiatives in Nevada. Batra (Principal Investigator) and Kuhls (Co-Principal investigator) will lead this grant-funded project along with a team of Subject Matter Experts/Co-investigators, including Dr. Dodds Simangan (Pediatrics/School of Medicine), Dr. Megumi Akiyama (Obstetrics and Gynecology/School of Medicine), and Dr. Farooq Abdulla (Neonatologist and Medical Director with United Health).
