Kavita Batra (Medicine) co-authored and published a study "Burden of non-communicable diseases and their attributable risk factors in Africa from1990 to 2023: a systematic analysis for the Global Burden of Disease Study 2023," in the Lancet Global Health journal. This study found that Africa's progress lags behind global improvements, with NCDs now accounting for 45% of all deaths. The continent is not on track to meet UN Sustainable Development Goal targets for reducing premature NCD mortality.
