UNLV OAsis journal Tradition-Innovations in Arts, Design, and Media Higher Education, published in partnership between the Alliance for the Arts in Research Universities (a2ru) and the UNLV College of Fine Arts, surpassed 10,000 downloads across 118 countries for its themed issue, “Artificial Intelligence and Possible Futures for the Arts,” demonstrating the global reach of UNLV-led scholarship and creative research.
The issue was edited by Julian Kilker (Journalism and Media Studies), Sarah O’Connell (Theatre), and Yvonne Houy (Fine Arts), alongside Leah Howd (Willem de Kooning Academie, Rotterdam) and Fen Kennedy (University of Alabama at Birmingham). Houy served as editor-in-chief.
The issue’s most downloaded contribution — a podcast-format research project on AI voice cloning and voice acting by Adam Paul (Film) — has received more than 1,700 downloads, highlighting the growing impact of innovative research formats in the arts.
The journal’s success has also led to invitations for panel discussions and competitively selected conference presentations on artificial intelligence in the arts for Kilker, Houy, and editorial board members Jutta Treviranus (OCAD University, Canada) and Juan Noguera (Rochester Institute of Technology), as well as presentations on innovations in open-access journal design and global scholarly community development for Kilker and Houy.
