Ibtihaj Ahmad (Civil and Environmental Engineering and Construction) has published his second peer-reviewed research article, titled “Analyzing Surface Spectral Signature Shifts in Fire-Affected Areas of Elko County Nevada,” in the journal Fire. The study integrates multi-source satellite imagery and advanced spectral analysis techniques to examine vegetation recovery patterns following wildfire events. By evaluating temporal changes in vegetation indices and burn severity metrics, the research provides new insights into ecosystem resilience and landscape-level recovery processes. The findings contribute to improved post-fire monitoring strategies and support more informed land management and restoration efforts.
The research was conducted under the supervision of Haroon Sahotra (Civil and Environmental Engineering and Construction) and was supported by the National Science Foundation under grant number OIA-2148788.
