Farhana Khandoker, Ph.D. student, (Public Health) and graduate assistant in the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships, is recognized for her recent scholarly accomplishment as the first author of the article, “Methodological Approaches in Studying Type-2 Diabetes-Related Health Behaviors—A Systematic Review,” published in Applied Sciences (2025). Her advisor, Dr. Timothy J. Grigsby, provided guidance and contributed as co-author to this important work.
This systematic review provides a comprehensive evaluation of the diverse methodologies; quantitative, qualitative, mixed-methods, and technology-assisted used to study key health behaviors among adults with type 2 diabetes, including diet, physical activity, medication adherence, and self-monitoring of blood glucose. By comparing the strengths and limitations of each approach, the paper underscores the critical need for longitudinal study designs, equity-driven frameworks, and culturally tailored methodologies that move beyond reliance on self-reported data. These advancements are essential to generating more accurate, inclusive, and actionable evidence that can directly inform strategies for diabetes prevention, effective self-management, and improved long-term health outcomes.
This publication reflects Khandoker's leadership as researcher and her continued commitment to advancing knowledge in public health.
