Alona Angosta (Nursing) received the John Crawford Nursing Research Institute Fellow Award from the Neuman Systems Model Research Institute in summer 2015. The purpose of the award is to recognize outstanding nurses who made significant contributions to nursing research using the Neuman Systems Model (NSM) as a research framework to guide their nursing research and practice. She has used the NSM to guide her research and practice with emphasis on health promotion and disease prevention. She has also published articles related to the NSM in peer-reviewed nursing journals, presented her research at national and international nursing conferences, published peer-reviewed abstracts related to her research studies utilizing the NSM, submitted a grant proposal using the NSM as the guiding framework, and chaired graduate nursing students' capstone projects using the NSM.

Additionally, Angosta published an article with her former graduate student, Sharon LaBrocca, who is now a nurse practitioner. Their article appeared recently in the peer-reviewed journal Home Health Care Management & Practice. The title of the article is "Management of an Adult Patient with Congenital Heart Disease: Implications for the Advanced Practice Registered Nurse."
