Cyndi Shein, Sarah Jones, Tammi Kim and Karla Irwin (all Special Collections and Archives) recently published a paper in the Journal of Western Archives. "Balancing the Art and Science of Archival Processing Metrics and Assessment" demonstrates how metrics are used to support value propositions, project proposals, project management, and strategic planning. The authors review archival processing metrics across the profession and place their own field data within the context of more than three decades of professional practice. They propose an extensible framework of core datapoints that can serve as a model for other repositories.
