Grant: Christina Demopoulos

Dr. Christina Demopoulos (Dental) received a $600,000 grant from Oral Health America to begin the Early Childhood Caries Prevention Project. The three-year grant, which partners the Dental School with Oral Health America/ Smiles Across America and Ronald McDonald House Charities, is designed to develop a comprehensive evidence-based/promising-practice protocol for 64 federally funded Early Head Start and Head Start Centers throughout Nevada. The project aims to reduce the incidence of childhood cavities by providing biannual oral health screenings and fluoride varnish applications, and establishing case management for those children identified as high risk. Eventually, the protocols will be implemented in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Minnesota.
