Andrew Lugg (Political Science) and co-authors Manfred Elsig, Kirthana Ganeson, and Marine Roux have published an article, "Trade Agreements and the design of democracy-related provisions (TRADEM): The creation of a new data set," in The Review of International Organizations. The article combines manual coding and machine learning to measure democracy-related provisions across six dimensions in 792 preferential trade agreements signed in the post-WWII era. These novel data allow scholars to better understand the design and effects of non-trade issues commonly included in trade agreements. The article can be found in The Review of International Organizations site, and more about the larger project can be found on the TRADEM site.
