Amy Haycraft, Jan Ina Gonzales, Shona Rue, and Hyunhwa “Henna” Lee (all Nursing) were awarded the School-based Training and Advancement for Rural Nurses (S.T.A.R.) grant from the Nevada Health Authority for $472,896. UNLV Nursing faculty will train and support rural school nurses in Elko County through enhanced onboarding, continuing education, behavioral health and suicide prevention training, and digital clinical resources. The project will equip rural school nurses to improve chronic disease management, student mental health support, referral coordination, and evidence-based school health practices, while establishing a scalable model for rural Nevada.
