On April 10, members of the UNLV community participated in a virtual event hosted by the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA). The event, "Sneak Peek Into the 2026 Region 8/9 Conference!," featured 5-minute Lightning Talks from several upcoming Region 8/9 Conference speakers, interactive Q&A and networking, as well as Conference updates. The session was led by UNLV Writing Center Assistant Director Alanna Bitzel, who is also the outgoing NACADA Region 9 Professional Development Chair, and included a presentation from Christopher J. Edwards, academic advisor in the Wilson Advising Center, titled "We’re Here Too: Men of Color in Academic Advising: Representation, Retention, and Intersectionality."
