Mentorship Mosaic
Our Approach
At UNLV, we approach mentoring through a Mentorship Mosaic model, which recognizes that success is strengthened not by a single mentor, but by a network of relationships that evolve over time. This model allows us to weave together faculty, peer, and programmatic mentorship across the graduate lifecycle.
By offering interconnected programs to undergraduate students, current graduate students, and faculty, we form a holistic mentorship ecosystem that promotes academic progress, professional growth, and a strong sense of belonging. This ecosystem reflects UNLV’s commitment as an access institution that prepares our graduate and professional students to thrive as scholars, professionals, and leaders.
Undergraduate Mentorship Programs
Grad Rebel Advantage
The Grad Rebel Advantage program demystifies graduate school at UNLV or elsewhere. This yearlong program guides UNLV undergraduate students through a mentorship program with graduate students that helps them decide if graduate school is the right path for them.
GRAD Research Immersion Summer Experience (GRAD RISE)
GRAD RISE is a week-long, research-focused program designed to inspire and prepare talented undergraduate students from UNLV and partner institutions to pursue doctoral studies in STEM at UNLV. Participants are paired with a graduate student mentor to work on a short-term research project in an existing lab or working group at UNLV.

Graduate Mentorship Programs
Mentoring Excellence, Nurturing Talents, Opportunities, and Resources for Success (MENTORS) Program
The MENTORS program enhances the UNLV graduate student experience by linking incoming UNLV graduate students with a peer mentor. Both the mentee and mentor benefit from the exchange of ideas and support and the expansion of their scholarly community.
Faculty Mentorship Programs
Mentoring Mentors Program
The Mentoring Mentors program equips UNLV faculty with evidence-based tools and shared frameworks to strengthen their effectiveness as research mentors. By focusing on clear expectations, communication, and student-centered mentoring practices, the program enhances faculty leadership while improving graduate student and postdoctoral training, retention, and research success.
This program is a collaboration among the Graduate College, the Office of Faculty Affairs, and academic colleges/schools which utilizes the framework from The Center for the Improvement of Mentored Experiences in Research (CIMER), the national leader in advancing evidence-based mentoring practices that improve research training, professional development, and student success acro
