Daniel Chi is a professor and chair of the Department of Finance in the Lee Business School at UNLV. He researches topics including corporate finance, product-market competition, financial markets and institutions, investments, financial modeling, and behavioral finance. 

He is on the advisory board of UNLV's Institute for Financial Literacy and Wellness, which offers a holistic approach to promote financial empowerment and expand access to financial education (such as borrowing, savings, and stocks) and counseling. Chi continues to teach a wide range of classes focusing on financial literacy.

His research — which has touched on topics including the value of cash increased over time, short-horizon incentives, and stock price inflation — has been published in peer-reviewed publications such as the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Banking and Finance, and Financial Management.

Chi has been a recipient of both the UNLV Department of Finance’s Research Award and Teaching Award. Additionally, he served as the inaugural director of UNLV’s Master of Science in Quantitative Finance (MSQF) program from 2019-2022. He also currently serves as the CFO, vice president, and treasurer for the Nevada Center on Foreign Relations, a nonpartisan nonprofit that offers seminars, speakers, and education regarding national security, justice, and peace.

Terence Farr

Real estate valuation

Terence (Terry) Farr is a real estate valuation expert and adjunct lecturer with the UNLV Lee Business School's Lied Center for Real Estate. He holds multiple certifications from the Appraisal Institute, CCIM (Certified Commercial Investment Member) Institute, and International Right of Way Association (IRWA).

Farr has nearly 20 years of appraisal and review experience covering a majority of property types — including commercial, industrial, and residential — in the Las Vegas Valley, California, Arizona, and Utah. His career trajectory includes working as a review appraiser at Nevada State Bank, an independent fee appraiser for a local real estate office, vice president of Valuation & Advisory Services, and founder of Farr Valuation, Inc.

Since 2016, Farr has served on the Clark County Board of Equalization and will continue to serve as vice chair — presiding over commercial real estate and personal property hearings — through Dec. 31, 2023. Additionally, he was elected to the CCIM Southern Nevada Chapter board of directors for 2024, participates as the social media chair for the IRWA Chapter 44, and has served on several committees within the local Appraisal Institute chapter.

Jamie Schwartz is the director of industry and business engagement for UNLV's Office of Economic Development and the associate director of UNLV's Research Foundation. Both are located within the Black Fire Innovation hub at the Harry Reid Research & Technology Park, where Schwartz is a former lead business advisor for the Small Business Development Center at UNLV. The SBDC is part of a nationwide nonprofit that offers free, confidential assistance with business plans, loan and grant applications, and educational workshops to small businesses and startup entrepreneurs.

Schwartz has a background in business consulting, valuation analysis, financial analysis, banking, commercial real estate and business sales, and acquisitions. Prior to running a business strategy and valuation firm locally, she spent many years as a partner in a pharmaceutical research firm, specializing in business expansion, marketing, and new study acquisition.

The Las Vegas native has spoken to media outlets on topics such as navigating supply chain issues and business closures during the COVID-19 pandemic, the impact of inflation on small businesses, the startup ecosystem in southern Nevada, and economic diversification.

Wonyong Oh is an expert in business ethics and corporate social responsibility.

His research examines corporate governance, with a particular focus on ownership structure and boards of directors, and strategic leadership, with a focus on CEOs and top management teams. Prior to joining UNLV, Oh taught at the University of Kansas and the University of Calgary.

His research has appeared in numerous academic journals such as the Journal of Management, Journal of Business Ethics, and the Journal of Managerial Issues.

Robert Rippee

Robert Rippee is a nationally recognized authority on the hospitality industry, particularly technology innovation, esports, and business and product development. He is often called upon by local and national media to provide context to emerging trends in hospitality, esports, robotics, artificial intelligence, and other technology applications in the service industry. 

Rippee directs the Hospitality and Esports Lab within UNLV's International Gaming Institute and is former senior vice president of marketing for Las Vegas Sands Corporation. The lab is project-oriented and guides students from an array of disciplines through the innovation process. The lab’s environment is one of the unique learning environments at UNLV, combining the development of disruptive innovation with guidance from subject matter experts in esports, robotics, artificial intelligence, experience design, virtual reality, augmented reality, blockchain, and more. 

Rippee is active as a board advisor, mentor, and consultant to several early stage and mature technology startup companies. He is also a veteran, having served as a pilot in the United States Navy.

Leith Martin

Leith Martin is the executive director of the Troesh Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the Lee Business School.

As director, Martin oversees various entrepreneurship programs — such as the Rebel Venture Fund, the UNLV National Science Foundation I-Corps program, and the academic entrepreneurship curriculum — that are tasked with offering entrepreneurial insight and establishing key relationships with stakeholders within the Las Vegas startup community and beyond.

Martin's expertise in entrepreneurship comes from personal experience. He turned down lucrative job offers after college to join startup global steel supplier Turnipseed International then went on to co-found the Las Vegas-based tech company EQUIINET. Martin served executive roles in both startup companies, expanding operations to India, China, and Western Europe.

He joined UNLV in January 2016.

Zachary R. Miles

Zach Miles serves as the senior associate vice president for economic development and executive director for the UNLV Research Foundation.

In these capacities, Miles manages the assessment, protection, and commercialization of intellectual property owned or controlled by UNLV and assists start-up companies in building a strong business foundation and seeking capital.

Prior to joining UNLV, Miles served as the deputy executive director of Technology Venture and Commercialization at the University of Utah. Miles has also co-founded, advised, and served as general counsel for a number of Utah based start-up companies.

Brent Hathaway

Brent Hathaway became dean and Ted and Doris Lee Professor of Business in the Lee Business School on Oct. 1, 2013. He joined UNLV from the University of Wyoming College of Business, where he served as dean for nine years and previously served as interim dean and chair of the management and marketing department.

He co-founded the Wyoming Business Leadership Institute, created an online executive MBA program and college-based career center, and enhanced graduate programs with an emphasis on energy and sustainability. He also raised more than $50 million for facility improvements.

In addition to academic leadership, Hathaway has extensive experience in the business sector. He served in several executive positions including vice president of marketing and sales for aerospace services at Honeywell International and director of marketing for agricultural equipment at Case Corp.

He has published and presented widely about entrepreneurship, leadership, business sustainability, ethics and the economy.

UNLV Lee Business School professor Andrew Hardin is an expert on technology management, and information technology innovation. His research focuses on virtual collaboration, financial decision support systems, and research methodologies.

Hardin's work has appeared in journals such as Management Science, MIS Quarterly, Journal of Management Information Systems, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Psychological Methods, Journal of the Association for Information Systems, European Journal of Information Systems, Information Systems Journal, DATABASE for Advances in Information Systems, Group Decision and Negotiations, Small Group Research, and Educational and Psychological Measurement. Hardin serves or has served as senior editor three of the top eight information systems industry journals. He was the UNLV Lee Business School researcher of the year in 2009 and 2011.
