Riana Durrett — a well-known figure in Nevada’s cannabis law and policy space — is the inaugural director of UNLV's Cannabis Policy Institute, which launched in 2023. She also teaches cannabis law and regulation courses at UNLV's William S. Boyd School of Law.

Durrett's background includes appointment by the governor as the first vice chair of the Nevada Cannabis Compliance Board. Prior to her work with the compliance board, Durrett served from 2015 to 2020 as the executive director of the Nevada Dispensary Association, where she established the association as the primary resource on best practices in Nevada's cannabis industry — developing the Nevada Dispensary Association into the primary regulatory and government affairs voice for Nevada's cannabis industry.

In addition to her work at UNLV, Durrett currently serves on the boards of the Nevada Taxpayer Association and the Nevada Conservation League.

Durrett is an attorney admitted to practice law in Nevada and California. While pursuing her law degree, Durrett participated in several internship and externship programs, including a judicial internship for the Suquamish Tribe, where her mother is an enrolled tribal member.

Terence Farr

Real estate valuation

Terence (Terry) Farr is a real estate valuation expert and adjunct lecturer with the UNLV Lee Business School's Lied Center for Real Estate. He holds multiple certifications from the Appraisal Institute, CCIM (Certified Commercial Investment Member) Institute, and International Right of Way Association (IRWA).

Farr has nearly 20 years of appraisal and review experience covering a majority of property types — including commercial, industrial, and residential — in the Las Vegas Valley, California, Arizona, and Utah. His career trajectory includes working as a review appraiser at Nevada State Bank, an independent fee appraiser for a local real estate office, vice president of Valuation & Advisory Services, and founder of Farr Valuation, Inc.

Since 2016, Farr has served on the Clark County Board of Equalization and will continue to serve as vice chair — presiding over commercial real estate and personal property hearings — through Dec. 31, 2023. Additionally, he was elected to the CCIM Southern Nevada Chapter board of directors for 2024, participates as the social media chair for the IRWA Chapter 44, and has served on several committees within the local Appraisal Institute chapter.

Hans Rawhouser is an associate professor in the Management, Entrepreneurship and Technology department at UNLV’s Lee Business School. He investigates blockchain technology, entrepreneurial ecosystems, how entrepreneurs gain resources, and how entrepreneurs achieve social impact (for example, greenhouse gas emission reductions, poverty alleviation, job creation, and creation of supportive social networks).

Rawhouser's body of research has explored topics such as carbon offset projects in developing countries, entrepreneurial training in Central America, measurement of social impact, and benefit corporations. His scholarship is forthcoming or published in academic publications including Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal, Small Business Economics, Academy of Management Discoveries, California Management Review, and Organization & Environment

Jamie Schwartz is the director of industry and business engagement for UNLV's Office of Economic Development and the associate director of UNLV's Research Foundation. Both are located within the Black Fire Innovation hub at the Harry Reid Research & Technology Park, where Schwartz is a former lead business advisor for the Small Business Development Center at UNLV. The SBDC is part of a nationwide nonprofit that offers free, confidential assistance with business plans, loan and grant applications, and educational workshops to small businesses and startup entrepreneurs.

Schwartz has a background in business consulting, valuation analysis, financial analysis, banking, commercial real estate and business sales, and acquisitions. Prior to running a business strategy and valuation firm locally, she spent many years as a partner in a pharmaceutical research firm, specializing in business expansion, marketing, and new study acquisition.

The Las Vegas native has spoken to media outlets on topics such as navigating supply chain issues and business closures during the COVID-19 pandemic, the impact of inflation on small businesses, the startup ecosystem in southern Nevada, and economic diversification.

Andrew Woods is the director of UNLV’s Center for Business and Economic Research (CBER). He brings over 15 years of public policy experience, most notably as a business and public affairs professional. Some of his research interests include strengthening research in education, transportation, workforce development, economic diversification, and other policy areas important to business and government.

Via a wide array of leadership positions in the public and private sectors, Woods has expertise in applying data and research to strengthen organizations and communities. Prior to joining UNLV in June 2021, he served as CEO of Woods Strategies, an economic analysis, financial management, and public affairs consulting firm. Projects included a research initiative detailing the importance of medical research to the well-being and growth of Nevada.

As director of CBER, Woods plans to increase the center's reach and reinforce its role as a trusted resource for business and economic information for the public. The center will continue to provide expertise on current and ongoing topics that are important to businesses and the community and will increase its output of high-quality academic research.

Woods is a regular contributor to media outlets, including Nevada Public Radio and a guest columnist for the Las Vegas Sun and The Nevada Independent.

Eileen McGarry is the executive director of Career Services at UNLV. With over 20 years of experience in community relations and higher education leadership, McGarry specializes in enhancing professional development and student success.

McGarry provides strategic direction and leadership for multiple stakeholders on campus to mobilize student career readiness and alumni career advancement. McGarry joined UNLV in 1988, directing the Career Services program for the dynamic growing university until 2010. McGarry spent the next few years as Career Services executive director for the University of Arizona and the University of California, Merced, before returning to UNLV in 2019. Since then, McGarry has directed the program for over 30,000 students and 10 staff that drives and supports the university's vision as a Top Tier Research Institution.

McGarry additionally works under the Division of Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement, developing and accelerating opportunities for students and alumni that serve a broad based employer constituency.

Rajiv Kishore is chair of UNLV's department of management, entrepreneurship, and technology. Kishore is also a professor of business analytics and management information systems (MIS) in the Lee Business School.

Raised in a remote village in India, Kishore earned his Ph.D. in the U.S. and spent 20 years working in academia before joining UNLV in August 2018. He also has experience in private industry, working in the systems engineering and aeronautics fields.

Kishore's research, which focuses on information technology and systems and outsourcing, has been published in prominent journals such as MIS Quarterly and European Journal of Information Systems. Research topics include the intersection of social media and online/virtual social support communities with healthcare, corruption and HR training, e-business, and knowledge sharing among older adults.

UNLV Lee Business School professor Nicholas Irwin studies microeconomics, particularly environmental and urban economics with a focus on the implications of these areas on real estate markets, human decision making, and demographics. His expertise is used to provide insight into proposed environmental or urban policies in Nevada and the economic implications surrounding them.

Irwin has conducted research on issues including the implications of COVID-19 on the housing market and water use, homeowners' response to new information about environmental hazards, the role of neighbors in homeowner decision making, and the implications of wildfire and other risks on housing demand and supply.

Irwin's work has been published in leading environmental and urban journals, including the Journal of Environmental Economics and Management, Energy Policy, Land Economics, and the Journal of Real Estate Research.

Marla Royne Stafford is an advertising and marketing expert who boasts 30 years of experience as a professor, department chair, and dean in the business discipline. She was previously the executive associate dean of academic affairs in UNLV's William F. Harrah College of Hospitality and currently serves as the William F. Harrah Distinguished Chair. Prior to her time in academia, she held positions with companies such as Tupperware Worldwide, Philip Crosby Associates, and Cardinal Industries where she worked in marketing and promotions, communications, and training development. 

Stafford has received numerous honors from the American Academy of Advertising (AAAs) — an organization for which she has served as past president. In March 2024, she received the organization's Kim Rotzoll Award for Ethics and Social Responsibility; in 2021, she was elected Fellow of the AAAs; and in 2016, she received the AAA's Ivan Preston Award for Outstanding Contribution to Advertising Research. Stafford is a two-time recipient of the University of Memphis Alumni Association Award for Distinguished Research in Business and Social Sciences. In 2018, she was recognized as one of the Superwomen in Business by the Memphis Business Journal.

Stafford is past editor-in-chief of the Journal of Advertising, and currently serves as associate editor of the Journal of Public Policy & Marketing and the Journal of Advertising Research. She has published more than 100 research articles in publications such as the Journal of Retailing, Journal of Public Policy and Marketing, Decision Sciences, Journal of Business Research, American Journal of Public Health, and Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
