UNLV’s Office of Equal Employment and Title IX is responsible for responding to reported concerns involving discrimination, harassment, and retaliation. We take all reports seriously and review each concern promptly and impartially.

If you have experienced or witnessed discrimination, harassment, or violence—including sexual misconduct, stalking, or retaliation—you are encouraged to report it. Reporting allows the university to take action, provide resources, and prevent future harm.

What to Expect When Reporting a Concern

Each case is highly individual, and what happens after you submit a report depends on your unique situation. Here is some information on how to prepare and what to expect in a general sense.

What to Include in a Report

When submitting a report, provide as much relevant and available information as possible, including but not limited to:

  • Names of involved parties
  • Location(s) of incident
  • Date(s) of incident
  • Description(s) of incident
  • Witness names
  • Supporting documents (e.g. police reports, text messages, pictures, or screenshots)
  • Resolution you are seeking

The Care Center may offer support in writing reports for those impacted by sexual violence, relationship violence, family violence, and/or stalking. For more information, contact the Care Center.

You may submit a concern anonymously using the reporting form; however, doing so may limit the university’s ability to investigate the incident or take action against an identified respondent.

What Happens After You Submit a Report

Once you submit a concern to this office, you will be contacted by an Office of Equal Employment and Title IX analyst within two business days to confirm receipt of the report.

Any individual you’ve identified as a complainant (the victim of the conduct—yourself or someone else) will also be contacted and scheduled for an intake interview to obtain any necessary additional information about the reported concern.

To receive the best support, please remain responsive and engaged with the Office of Equal Employment and Title IX throughout the process, including replying to outreach and requests for additional information.

Preparing for an Intake Interview

Intake interviews are typically scheduled with the complainant (alleged victim of the conduct). The purpose of the intake interview is to better understand the concern, discuss options, and identify necessary support.

To help you feel prepared, you may:

  • File a report if you were not the original reporter.
  • Bring any additional information with you (e.g. dates of when incidents took place, where incidents took place, names of witnesses, and supporting documentation, such as police reports, text messages, pictures, or screenshots).
  • Identify and bring an advisor. An advisor may be a friend, family member, colleague, or other trusted individual. To ensure a fair and impartial process, the advisor cannot have a conflict of interest, such as being directly involved in the reported matter (e.g. a witness) or having a role that could influence the outcome. Please notify the Office of Equal Employment and Title IX analyst prior to your meeting to obtain FERPA authorization for your advisor’s attendance.
  • Think about the resolution you are seeking.

During the intake interview, our team will:

  • Explain the role of our office and relevant policies
  • Ask clarifying questions to better understand the concern
  • Describe potential supportive measures
  • Review the resolution you are seeking
  • Provide an opportunity for you to ask questions

You Are Protected from Retaliation

Retaliation for submitting a concern of discrimination or harassment or participating in an investigation with the Office of Equal Employment and Title IX is prohibited and may result in discipline up to and including termination and/or expulsion.

If you feel you are being retaliated against, contact the Office of Equal Employment and Title IX immediately.
