He was 11 years old when he found his skill on the guitar. The 6th grader who was just getting into Rock and Roll became the rockstar himself before he knew it.

His name is John Wedemeyer.

Wedemeyer never really planned on making a career out of playing. Thanks to his mom for signing up for guitar lessons, John eventually started to play professionally at 19 years old.

“It just happened, and I went with it.” he said. He has been playing everyday ever since.

After being back and forth between Las Vegas and his hometown in Northern California, Wedemeyer officially moved to Sin City in 2006 and continued his music journey here.

Wedemeyer has lived some incredibly memorable moments as an artist. He’s experienced so many that he can’t even pin just one that was his favorite, although performing with Zeppelin USA is a special memory. The cover/tribute band for Led Zeppelin played at the Smith Center in 2018, and John got to be on stage playing Led Zeppelin music for a whole night. The band performs every couple to few months throughout the year.

When Wedemeyer is not busy playing for crowds, he plays at home during his free time trying to learn other guitar playing styles. He also has ideas in his pocket for an original album.

“I definitely want to write an album, it’s just hard to find the time,” he said. “It’s embarrassing at this point because it’s so easy to do.”

Wedemeyer also plays every first Wednesday of the month with his other blues band called The Hot Mops at Gatsby’s Supper Club in Henderson.

Wedemeyer would not have found his love nor expertise for music without the help of his guitar teacher. One of his most important lessons was allowing John to explore all types of music. This helped him gain more appreciation for the art and remain open to all genres.

Because his passion is his job, it’s important to Wedemeyer that it stays fun and enjoyable. He’s incredibly grateful that he can make a living off of playing a guitar. The guitar has become a part of John as a whole and he plans to continue playing.
