Learn About UNLV’s First-Year Experience Programming

UNLV’s First-Year Experience (FYE) programming provides incoming first year and transfer students with a comprehensive network of engagement and support opportunities that ease the transition to the UNLV campus, promote success, and student achievement. Our faculty and staff play a crucial role in the FYE experience, as they can encourage students to connect with people, attend events, discover opportunities, and learn more about how they can find their path to success.

The Role of Faculty in Retention, Progression, and Completion (RPC) at UNLV

RPC at UNLV refers to the retention, progression, and completion (or graduation) of our students – a critical, though not solitary, piece of the student success equation. UNLV faculty play a critical role in helping students advance in their college education, and it is crucial for faculty to know how strong of an impact they can have on helping students succeed.

Support Student-Athletes Through the WebCampus Student Observer Role

Student-Athlete Academic Services (SAAS) offers a WebCampus student observer role option to support student-athletes in their academic transition, progress, and success. For students opted in, the program allows SAAS academic eligibility specialists to have read-only access to the student’s WebCampus course, enabling them to monitor coursework progression, provide early support, and guide students toward academic resources throughout the semester. This tool plays an important role in helping student-athletes stay on track academically while meeting institutional, conference, and NCAA eligibility requirements.

Student observers complete required training in FERPA, NCAA regulations, and academic integrity, and are limited to read-only access for the assigned student’s course activity. They cannot edit content, submit work, or view information about other students in the course. Participation is voluntary for both instructors and student-athletes, and faculty may opt out at any time by submitting the SAAS Instructor Request to Opt Out of Canvas Observer form.

If you would like to learn more about the WebCampus student observer role, or if you would like to know the participating student-athletes in your course(s) and who the observers will be, please email rebecca.pugh@unlv.edu
