UNLV Vehicle Repair Services Has Reopened

UNLV Vehicle Repair Services (VRS) has resumed responsibility for servicing and repairing all UNLV fleet vehicles.

All routine maintenance, repairs, diagnostics, and related vehicle services for UNLV fleet vehicles must be coordinated through VRS. Departments must discontinue arranging service directly with outside suppliers.

PCard use is no longer appropriate for UNLV fleet vehicle services. Departments should not use a PCard or Purchase Order for repairs, maintenance, parts, towing, or other vehicle-related services.

Why Fleet Service Must Be Coordinated Through VRS

Centralizing fleet service through Vehicle Repair Services (VRS) is critical to maintaining complete and accurate vehicle records. VRS tracks maintenance history, repair activity, inspections, warranties, parts, costs, and other required service documentation for each UNLV vehicle.

Using VRS also helps UNLV:

  • Maintain complete and accurate vehicle maintenance and repair records.
  • Support safety inspections, preventive maintenance schedules, and other compliance requirements.
  • Support state and legislative reporting requirements, including emissions and smog compliance.
  • Protect vehicle warranties and help ensure repairs are completed appropriately.
  • Track fleet costs and identify recurring repair issues or vehicle replacement needs.
  • Maintain accountability for university-owned vehicles and equipment.
  • Ensure the appropriate university purchasing and payment processes are followed.
  • Provide university-wide fleet data to support budgeting, lifecycle planning, and future vehicle replacement decisions.
  • Preventive Maintenance and Repair

Departments are responsible for ensuring university vehicles are made available for required preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs. Regular preventive maintenance helps reduce unexpected repairs, extend the useful life of university vehicles, and identify potential safety concerns before they become more significant.

Vehicles identified as unsafe to operate must remain out of service until required safety repairs have been completed.

Preventive maintenance services may include, but are not limited to:

  • Battery capacity check
  • Tire wear and inflation check
  • Brake system check and adjustment
  • Lubrication of applicable components
  • Fluid checks and refills
  • Smog/emissions check
  • Oil change
