UNLV to Participate in the 2026 Great Nevada ShakeOut Oct. 15

UNLV will join the rest of the Nevada System of Higher Education in the Great Nevada ShakeOut on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2026, at 10:15 a.m. The statewide earthquake drill is part of a broader international effort to promote earthquake readiness and safety.

Nevada is the third most seismically active state in the U.S., which means that knowing how to protect yourself is essential. Whether you are in class, at work, or in the dorms, this is your chance to practice the simple actions that can save lives.

What to Expect During the Drill: At exactly 10:15 a.m. on Oct. 15, an earthquake alert will go out across campus. That is your cue to practice the lifesaving steps:

  • DROP to the ground
  • COVER your head and neck (and get under a sturdy desk or table if possible)
  • HOLD ON until the shaking stops
