For March 2024, the UNLV offices of educational compliance and accessibility resources recognize Kevin Kydd, Senior IT Web Developer from the UNLV Office of Information Technology (OIT) as our Rebel Accessibility Hero.
In her nomination letter, Alethea Inns, associate instructional technology support specialist in Instructional Technology Services, stated: "Kevin organized and executed a presentation for the Office of Information Technology (OIT) about designing accessible digital content. He's our #1 advocate for accessibility for OIT, and is a valuable subject matter expert. The OIT team turns to him to ensure its digital content is accessible. He is always designing with accessibility top of mind, and has been working to create an accessibility mindset for OIT and UNLV."
Highlights from Kydd's nomination notes from Karen Asquith, OIT's director for IT strategic planning and communications, said that as senior web developer for UNLV's information technology website, "Kevin takes accessibility seriously. He designs for and encourages his fellow developers to adopt higher standards. When the university adopted SiteImprove to help web developers regularly scan websites for accessibility issues, he immediately devoted time to learning and implementing the software, and recruited other IT colleagues to join him. He regularly shares in a manner that is humble and supportive, making him an easy person to reach out to for questions."
Finally, Deana Waddell, UNLV's senior director of web and digital strategy, shared: "Kevin has been a great partner in the university's accessibility initiative, and works closely with our unit on all things web. He has shown a lot of care and concern around accessibility, and constantly strives to make the OIT website a better, more accessible site."
