Join the Care Center for Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Be part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month on campus! This October, the Jean Nidetch Care Center is hosting a series of free events focused on raising awareness, learning about prevention, and supporting victim-survivors. All events are free and open to the UNLV community and the greater community.

  • Donut Worry, We Care: Open House | Oct 5 | Building SSC-A Room 255 | 1PM-3PM
    • Tour the Care Center, meet our team, discover our resources and services, and grab a free donut!
  • Supporting Victim-Survivors of Domestic Violence Training | Oct 7 | Beam Hall RM: 216 or Virtual (BOTH) | 1PM-2:30PM
    • Led by Christina Hall and Scott Hoffman, learn about trauma-informed care and how to respond to disclosures of power-based violence to further support students.
  • Ink & Action with the Barrick Museum of Art | Oct 15 | Xeric Garden | 1PM-3PM
    • Create actionable art with the Care Center and the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art to advocate against domestic violence and support victim-survivors.
  • “Don’t Be Chicken” Active Bystander Training | Oct 21 | SU Room 219 | 1PM - 2:30PM
    • A conversation for men about healthy relationships, active bystander intervention, and DVAM. Learn how to recognize warning signs and safely step in. Raising Cane’s chicken will be provided (while supplies last)!
  • Purple Thursday | Oct 22 | Alumni Walk | 10AM - 12PM
    • Wear purple with us to support victim-survivors on Purple Thursday! Visit us to learn about upcoming events, write affirmations on ribbons, and enjoy free giveaways!
  • Witches Take Back the Night | Oct 29 | SU Room 213 | 3PM-5PM
    • Connect with community advocates, learn prevention skills, and take part in activities centered around healing and empowerment.
    • Wear costumes, enjoy light refreshments, and make crafts.

How You Can Support

  • Attend an event together as a department or an organization.
  • Offer extra credit to your students for attending an event 
  • Share our DVAM events with your colleagues and social media followers.
  • Encourage your staff to wear purple throughout October, especially on Purple Thursday.
  • Help spread awareness by sharing Care Center resources with your organization.
