Eadington Fellow Colloquium July 23: Casino Climates

Join UNLV Special Collections & Archives for the next Eadington Fellow Colloquium with Hsuan L. Hsu, Ph.D., Professor of English at University of California, Davis, on Thursday, July 23 at 10 a.m. in the Goldfield Room.

In connection with Hsuan's recent book, Air Conditioning (Bloomsbury 2024), this presentation will discuss historical and ongoing efforts to engineer the interrelations between Las Vegas's casino environments and the climate.

The talk will include the history of air conditioning in Las Vegas, UNLV-sponsored research on "casino atmospherics," the connections between indoor and outdoor weather, and the use of bespoke scents for branding and behavioral modification.

A reception with the fellow will follow the presentation. Please RSVP online.

The William R. Eadington Fellowship program is sponsored by the University Libraries Special Collections and Archives and funds scholarly research into our collections on gaming and Las Vegas.
