Please join the UNLV community as we wish senior staff physician Dr. Sal Biazzo well at his campus retirement reception on Thursday, Sept. 3, from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Student Union, room 209.

As we celebrate the career of Senior Staff Physician Dr. Sal Biazzo, DO from the UNLV Student Health Center and Faculty and Staff Treatment (FAST) Center and honor his immense contributions to UNLV, we reflect on his clinical excellence, unparalleled compassion and warmth for patients, and leadership:

• Over 18+ years of service as the senior staff physician in the SHC and FAST Center,  Dr. Biazzo has provided medical care to nearly 10,000 individuals on our campus during more than 25,000 patient visits! 
• A dedicated champion for equity, Biazzo founded the Student Wellness Gender Care Team (GCT), a multidisciplinary effort that established a standard of excellence for gender-affirming health and mental health care on campus.    
• Biazzo performed a wide array of in-office procedures, with strict attention to safety and quality, supporting a 0% post-procedure infection rate maintained in the SHC/FAST Center for nearly two decades. In-demand patient procedures performed by Biazzo included osteopathic manipulative therapy (OMT),  which brought significant pain relief to hundreds of patients, as well as skin biopsies and suturing of lacerations, just to name a few.
• Beyond his clinical impact, Biazzo’s instrumental work on UNLV's Biomedical Sciences and Social/Behavioral Sciences Institutional Review Boards (IRBs) profoundly impacted the campus community’s commitment to research and the advancement of  research- and evidence-based healthcare. 
• Furthermore, Biazzo has  been a pillar of clinical education for medical students. By generously sharing his time, skill and knowledge to guide and mentor the next generation of physicians, he has helped instill a standard of excellence that has gone  far beyond the classroom. Biazzo’s legacy will live on in the countless medical students he trained in the SHC and FAST Center who now carry forward his lessons of integrity, skill, and deep compassion for their patients.
• Medical students consistently rated Biazzo as "excellent" in the following areas on preceptor evaluations:  clinical skills/knowledge, professionalism, approachability, responsiveness, communication, dependability, providing both positive and constructive feedback, and supporting students' academic goals.
