Book Launch with Filipino Author Monica Macansantos May 15

This Thursday, May 15, at 7 p.m., join Black Mountain Institute in celebrating the book launch of "Returning to My Father’s Kitchen" with author Monica Macansantos in conversation with Kim Foster. The reading, conversation, Q&A, and book signing will take place at the Majestic Repertory Theatre in the Arts District (1217 S Main St, Las Vegas, NV 89104).

Monica Macansantos holds an MFA from the Michener Center at the University of Texas at Austin, and a Ph.D. from the International Institute of Modern Letters at the Victoria University of Wellington. She is the author of the forthcoming essay collection "Returning to My Father’s Kitchen," and the story collection "Love and Other Rituals." Her work has been recognized as Notable in the Best American Essays 2023, 2022, 2021, and 2016. She has received fellowships from Hedgebrook, the Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts, the I-Park Foundation, and others.

Kim Foster is a James Beard Award-winning food writer. She writes about people at the intersection of food and mental illness, family separation, poverty, addiction, trauma, and incarceration. You can read her work on her weekly newsletter, on her website, and on Twitter and Instagram. She lives in Las Vegas, Nevada with her husband, David, their four kids, and many animals.
