Acclaimed legal analysts Catherine Crier and Jeffrey Toobin will present "The New Supreme Court: What's at Stake" on Nov. 9 as part of the annual Barrick Lecture Series at UNLV, now in its 25th year.

The presentation is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. and will be held in the Artemus W. Ham Concert Hall at UNLV. Although the event is free and open to the public, tickets are required and will be available starting at 10 a.m. Oct. 22 at the Performing Arts Center Box Office on campus. Tickets are limited to two per person.

Crier, a legal analyst for Court TV since 1999, is currently the host of "Catherine Crier Live," a daily program that looks at legal issues surrounding the day's headlines. She has also hosted numerous other series and specials for the network, including the signature primetime series, "The System," for which she won a duPont-Columbia Award for her work documenting the controversial interrogation of Michael Crowe. Before joining the Court TV team, Crier was an anchor and analyst for Fox News, ABC News, and CNN.

Prior to her career in television, Crier was the youngest state judge ever to be elected in Texas, presiding over the 162nd District Court in Dallas County. She has also served as a civil litigation attorney, assistant district attorney, and felony chief prosecutor in Dallas. In 1990, the American Bar Association named her one of "Twenty Young Lawyers Who Make a Difference." Crier is also an accomplished author, penning the 2002 New York Times bestseller, "The Case Against Lawyers," in which she shares her outrage at the state of the justice system and calls for American citizens to demand reform.

Toobin covers legal affairs for The New Yorker magazine, and has been a legal analyst for CNN since 2002. He gained notoriety in the television world while acting as a legal analyst for ABC News, where he provided careful analysis of the nation's highest profile cases, including the O.J. Simpson trial and the Kenneth Starr investigation of the Clinton White House. In 2000, he received an Emmy award for his coverage of the Elian Gonzales custody trial. As a writer for The New Yorker, Toobin has tackled countless incendiary issues, including the trial of Timothy McVeigh, the Paula Jones sexual harassment case, and trial of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.

Toobin has also served as an assistant U.S. attorney in Brooklyn, NY, and has written several best-selling books, including "The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson," and "Too Close to Call: The 36-Day Battle to Decide the 2000 Election."

The Barrick Lecture Series, funded through a grant from philanthropist Marjorie Barrick, presents nationally and internally known speakers from a variety of fields each year at UNLV.
