It was a life-changing day at the UNLV Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine as students participated in Match Day, a pivotal event where soon-to-be graduates discover where they will spend the next three to seven years completing residencies in their chosen specialties.

Match Day is a day filled with nerves and excitement, determining where medical students will spend the next few years training, and for some, staying home to serve their community.

Two organizations were recognized for contributing to the future of journalism at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) on Thursday.

Until recently, it was a little-known program to help Black and Latino students pursue business degrees. But in January, conservative strategist Christopher Rufo flagged the program known as The PhD Project in social media posts that caught the attention of Republican politicians. The program is now at the center of a Trump administration campaign to root out diversity, equity and inclusion programs in higher education.

UNLV's journalism school recognized two important groups with permanent installations on Thursday. The Greenspun College of Urban Affairs unveiled donor plaques for the Nevada Broadcasters Association and Foundation, and the Tony and Linda Bonnici Scholarship Fund.

UNLV continues to shape young professionals including in the journalism and broadcasting field. One group that’s helping the next generation of journalists was recognized at the university Thursday.

Just an hour before the big announcement, Dr. Marc Kahn came by on ARC to express his excitement for the students and how much this special moment meant to him. To celebrate the big day, there's a tradition of having themed "matching" days where last year, Dr. Kahn dressed up as Super Mario and this year is Harry Potter-themed!
