The Office of Housing and Residential Life (HRL) recently hosted its bi-annual departmental retreat in preparation for the upcoming fall 2025 semester. Led by HRL Director, Peter Gatto, the two-day retreat served as a vital opportunity for staff to align departmental goals, reinforce expectations, and strengthen team dynamics ahead of the return of students to campus.
Key topics of discussion included operational logistics such as student move-in coordination, room inspections, and updates on departmental procedures. Particular attention was given to staff transitions and organizational updates to ensure a seamless and supportive experience for students. The retreat concluded with team-building exercises designed to promote collaboration, communication, and a shared sense of purpose among staff members.
As HRL gears up to welcome new and returning Rebels, the department continues to emphasize the many advantages of living on campus. Students who choose campus housing enjoy a range of benefits, including:
- Access to enriching programs designed to support academic and personal success
- Opportunities to participate in campus organizations and attend university events
- A chance to live independently in a structured and supportive environment
- More time to focus on studies, social life, and self-care—without the hassle of commuting through Las Vegas traffic
- Convenience of meal plans and dining options, removing the burden of grocery shopping, cooking, and doing dishes
- Exclusive access to resident-only events and social opportunities
- An immersive, diverse community experience alongside students from various cultural backgrounds
- The opportunity to live on a themed floor—known as theme communities—where students can explore shared interests, connect with peers in similar majors or classes, and engage in co-curricular learning outside the classroom
Theme communities are especially popular among students who value connection and enrichment. Whether it's a focus on leadership, sustainability, health sciences, or the arts, these communities foster an environment where students feel a sense of belonging and purpose.
As the fall semester approaches, the HRL team stands ready and enthusiastic to welcome the next wave of students to UNLV. With a commitment to student success and a passion for community-building, Housing and Residential Life remains a cornerstone of the Rebel experience.
