Presentation: Johan Bester

Dr. Johan Bester (Medicine) presented two topics related to his work in medical ethics at the annual meeting of the American Society of Humanities and Bioethics this month.

The first presentation focused on his theoretical work in clinical ethics expertise, titled "Getting to the Heart (and Mind) of Clinical Ethics Expertise". This was presented collaboratively with Dr. Bryan Kibbe of Wellstar Health in Atlanta.

The second provided a series of critiques of the use of the harm principle in ethical decision-making for children, titled "The Five Questions Every Proponent of the Harm Principle Must Answer: Substantive and Normative Problems with Using the Harm Principle in Pediatric Ethics".

These sessions were followed by stimulating questions and observations from the audience during the Q&A period, which led to interesting and robust discussion.
