Eileen Enriquez and Sierra McCarty (both School of Medicine students) helped advance state policy at the 2025 Nevada State Medical Association (NSMA) Annual House of Delegates with the adoption of Resolution E22, Regulate Troubled Teen Organizations. They authored the resolution, which addresses widespread safety, oversight, and accountability gaps within the troubled teen industry, including youth residential treatment centers, wilderness therapy programs, and therapeutic boarding schools.
Citing extensive evidence of abuse, use of non–evidence-based practices, and disproportionate harm to marginalized youth, the policy advocates for standardized licensing and staffing requirements across all youth residential programs, opposes abusive and non–evidence-based therapies, and supports clinical oversight by appropriately trained and licensed child and adolescent healthcare professionals to protect the health and well-being of Nevada’s youth.
