Medical student Christina Dantam (Medicine) and assistant professor Dr. Rooman Ahad (Pediatric Neurology), in collaboration with the Grant a Gift Autism Foundation – Ackerman Center and the UNLV Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine, recently published a case study titled, "Case report of paroxysmal dystonia in a child with KBG syndrome: Expansion of the phenotype and utility of whole exome sequencing," in the journal Medicine. The report highlights the diagnostic utility of whole exome sequencing (WES) in evaluating patients with complex neurodevelopmental conditions and unexplained movement disorders. Ahad, a board-certified pediatric neurologist, plays a key role in diagnosing and managing autism spectrum disorders at the Ackerman Center, where Dantam is also engaged in clinical research.
