Ahmed Nadeem-Tariq, Matthew Michelberger, Christopher J. Fang, Jeffrey Lucas Hii, Sukanta Maitra, and Brock T. Wentz (all Medicine) published “Addressing the Leadership Gap: A Systematic Review of Asian American Underrepresentation in Orthopaedic Surgery” in Healthcare (MDPI). This review found that, despite strong representation in residency programs, Asian American orthopaedic surgeons are significantly less likely to advance into senior academic or leadership roles, a “bamboo ceiling” effect quantified by a pooled risk difference of 0.19. The findings highlight structural barriers to career progression and the need for targeted mentorship and promotion reforms to improve health equity and people-centered care.
