Ahmadreza Khatamgooya (Civil and Environmental Engineering) was recently announced as the 2026-2027 Robert E. Lang Memorial Fellow. The Robert E. Lang Memorial Fellowship is awarded annually to an outstanding UNLV Ph.D. student completing a dissertation in metropolitan public policy broadly defined with special consideration given to applicants focusing their research on the Las Vegas metropolitan region and public policy in the Mountain West. Ahmadreza is a Ph.D. candidate in Civil and Environmental Engineering, specializing in environmental engineering, water and wastewater systems, renewable energy applications, and infrastructure risk assessment induced by power outages. His doctoral research assesses the risks that electric power disruptions pose to drinking water and wastewater systems, with a broader focus on strengthening the resilience of essential infrastructure in Nevada and across the United States. His work seeks to support Nevada’s water and electric power policy, infrastructure planning, and resilience strategies, including renewable energy-based mitigation approaches.
