In order to begin your student teaching, you will need to:

  • Complete the appropriate degree requirements, including successful completion of Piano Proficiency.
  • Receive a passing score on the PPST (PRAXIS I) tests.
  • Have an undergraduate degree with an overall GPA of 2.75 or higher.
  • Successfully complete Nevada School Law, U.S. Constitution, and Nevada Constitution course work.
  • Be cleared through fingerprinting and a criminal background check.
  • Complete an application for admission to student teaching through the College of Education Office of Field Experience website, the semester before student teaching is desired.
  • Register for student teaching through online registration.

Student teaching applications must be filed by specific deadline dates in the semester immediately preceding student teaching. An applicant must successfully meet all conditions before an application for supervised teaching will be approved.

Any candidate for student teaching who has transferred to UNLV must fulfill all specific requirements and have completed at least 15 hours in residence, including nine credits in professional education courses.

Advising

Students are encouraged to seek advisement from Music Education faculty. Program requirements are available in the university catalogue; however, it is recommended that students should maintain contact with advisors as changes in school policies, program or licensure requirements may occur.
