Key Information

Eligibility

  • Available to benefits-eligible employees, whether enrolled in medical insurance or not.

Enrollment

  • Enrollment is only available during open enrollment or within 60 days of hire/qualifying life event.
  • Election is fixed for the entire year unless you have a qualifying life event.
  • Enrollment through Workday (Please do not fill out the PEBP’s FSA enrollment form.)

Contributions and Reimbursements

  • Plan operates on a fiscal year plan (July 1–June 30).
  • Any contributions that are not used by the end of the plan year are forfeited to the NSHE plan as required by IRS regulations.
  • Reimbursement claims must be submitted within 90 days of employment ending or during the grace period. The grace period is 2 ½ months following the end of the plan year, and allows you to submit claims for expenses incurred in the previous plan year.

Compare FSA Options for Benefits-Eligible Employees

Before you compare and select an FSA option, please note the following:

  • The healthcare FSA is separate from the Health Savings Account (HSA) that is offered by the Public Employees' Benefits Program (PEBP) as part of the PPO – High Deductible Consumer Driven Health Plan.
  • The limited scope FSA is only available if enrolled in the Public Employees’ Benefits Program (PEBP) PPO – High Deductible Consumer Driven Health Plan (CDHP-PPO) with an HSA.
 
  Healthcare FSA Limited Scope FSA Dependant Care FSA
Eligible Services Use for medical, prescription, dental and vision expenses such as co-payments, coinsurance, deductibles, physician office visits, most prescriptions, certain over-the-counter medications, glasses, contacts, and dental visits. Use for dental and vision expenses only. All other medical expenses are eligible for payment through the HSA. Use for eligible expenses for tax dependent(s) under the age of 13, parent or other elderly dependent, or a spouse who is mentally or physically incapable of caring for self. Eligible expenses include licensed nursery school, daycare center, care inside your home and eldercare.
