1. Graduate College Policy
    • You may not participate in commencement until all degree requirements have been met.
    • You must be registered for at least three (3) graduate credits during the term in which you intend to graduate.
    • Your application will not be processed if you are not registered.
    • You may be granted an exception to this policy during the semester of graduation. To qualify, please refer to the enrollment waiver policy.
    • Late application requests should be sent to grad.rpc@unlv.edu. If approved, the student will also be responsible for paying an additional late fee of $20.
  2. Graduation Fees
    • The $125 graduation and processing fee will be placed on your student account (one fee per degree/certificate) beginning the first day of registration for the semester in which you have applied to graduate, or, if registration has already opened, your fee will be applied within two business days.
    • Visit "Make Payment" in the MyUNLV Student Center to pay the graduation fee and any other outstanding tuition and fees.
    • A transcript and diploma hold will be placed on the account of any student who has not paid the graduation fee by the end of the graduating semester.
  3. Processing your Graduation Application
    • Your graduation application will not be processed if you are not registered in at least 3 graduate credits in the semester in which you intend to graduate.
    • It is your responsibility to ensure that all requirements leading to the confirmation of your degree are completed. All required forms must be submitted to the Graduate College before your application will be processed for graduation and the degree conferred.
    • You must also submit a final copy of your thesis or dissertation to the Graduate College before your application will be processed for graduation and the degree conferred.
  4. Delayed Graduation

If you apply for graduation and then change your anticipated graduation date, or if you do not meet the necessary degree requirements in the semester in which you applied to graduate, your graduation application will be automatically updated to the next semester. However, if you still do not meet all necessary degree requirements to graduate in the updated semester, you will be required to apply to graduate for a new semester and pay another graduation fee.

  5. Commencement Attendance Information

Commencement attendance is not required; however, if you do plan to attend, you must wear the appropriate cap and gown. The above graduation fees do not cover the cost of the cap, gown, or invitations. Degree candidates planning to attend commencement should contact the Bookstore at 702-895-3290, about purchasing caps, gowns, and invitations. Doctoral candidates must wear the scarlet and gray gown. You have the option to purchase academic or ceremonial regalia. Academic regalia must be ordered at least 8 weeks prior to the ceremony. Regalia can be purchased through the Herff Jones website.

If your plans regarding attending commencement change from the time you complete the application, please inform the Graduate College by emailing us at gradrebel@unlv.edu. Since this information is needed for seating and mailing purposes, please inform us by the end of April for the May Commencement or by November 15 for the December ceremony.

If you change your graduation semester after submitting your graduation application, or if you do not meet the necessary degree requirements, your graduation application will be automatically updated to the next semester. If you still do not meet necessary degree requirements to graduate in the updated semester, you will be required to apply for a new semester and pay another graduation fee.
