The members of the Department of Anthropology at UNLV share the notion that the deeply embedded forces of racism and, in particular, anti-Black racism and aggression, along with racist policies and laws, have made the US a dangerous and intolerable place for communities of color. We join with those calling for social and economic justice and stand in solidarity. We are committed to helping shape a better future through our studies and our teaching, our activism and support, and our engagement and leadership. We will work to better serve our students, staff, and faculty of color now and in the future. We welcome input as we move forward with the next academic year.
We endorse the following statements and calls to action:
- A message of solidarity from UNLV President, Dr. Marta Meana
- A message from the faculty of the UNLV African American & African Diaspora Studies program
- A message from UNLV’s academic multicultural resource center, The Intersection
- American Anthropological Association
- Association of Black Anthropologists
- American Association of Physical Anthropology
- Society for American Archaeology
