The UNLV Freshman Academy is designed to impact the overall academic success of new students as they transition from high school to university-level learning. Academy students will work closely with a UNLV Academic Advisor to be sure appropriate courses are completed within the first year of studies.

We are here to help you succeed – welcome to UNLV!

Program Benefits

  • Your courses will be hand-selected by your advisor based on your degree plan and individual needs.
  • Dedicated academic support services and programming will help Academy students make a successful transition to college.

New Student Orientation

You will attend an orientation session designed to help you in your transition to UNLV. Be sure to look for an email from the Orientation Office at that time to sign up.

Coursework will be determined at your New Student Orientation session when you meet with the academic advisors for your college’s major. Selection will be based upon completed high school coursework, ACT/SAT scores, and your major(s) of interest at UNLV. There is no need to register for your classes before this orientation session.

August Freshman Seminar

Every first-time freshman at UNLV is required to complete a First-Year Seminar course. This course will introduce you to the University Undergraduate Learning Outcomes (UULOs), which are the knowledge and skills every UNLV graduate is expected to achieve. It will also familiarize you with the many resources designed to support your academic success at UNLV and equip you with essential college success skills, like time management, academic planning, and effective study strategies.

As an Academy student, you have the option to enroll in an early First-Year Seminar that runs from August 1 through the first week of the Fall 2018 semester. This course is covered by federal financial aid, will lighten your fall course load, and will give you a head start on academic success
