With the reliable and secure Webex Calling communication system, UNLV Telecommunications supports traditional voice services as well as modern features that meet the needs of our growing campuses. We continually seek to improve the overall communication experience for UNLV Faculty and Staff and have focused on enabling self-service, remote work, and advanced calling solutions.

Webex Calling Features

Eligibility

Webex Calling is available for all UNLV faculty and staff.

Charges

UNLV Telecommunications charges for recurring monthly service, one-time labor, hardware, and materials. Refer to the prices and rate table to learn more about charges.

Getting Started

You must sign into self-service to create a new voicemail PIN before you can access voicemails. Then you can set up voicemail greetings using the self service website or by accessing voicemail through your phone.

  1. Go to user.webex.com.
  2. Enter your UNLVMail email address and select the “Next” button.
    1. This must be your “@unlv.edu” address.
  3. Complete the normal UNLV sign-in procedure.

    1. Alternatively, use the voicemail button on your phone to access your voicemail. Enter your new PIN and record your greetings over the phone.

  • Webex App
    • This full featured softphone can be installed on computers and mobile phones. The app allows employees to use their UNLV phone number to make and receive calls.
  • Webex Calling for Chrome
    • Chrome extension that can be used as an alternative to the Webex app. The extension only provides calling features and is available for most operating systems.

Webex self-service features allow you to have more control over your calling solution than ever before. Features offered in self-service can be activated without any additional charges. Submit a Work Order or contact Telecommunications if you have any questions or need assistance.

Personal Call Recording

  • Individuals use personal call recording to occasionally record phone calls. This could allow a person to review important calls at a later date or share specific calls with management.
  • Charges:
    • Set up Fee: ¼ hour labor
    • Recurring Fees: None

Intercom

  • This feature allows departments to send operational broadcast pages to all of their staff’s desk phones. The intercom feature is not to be used for emergency communications. 
  • Charges:
    • Set up Fee: Varies by complexity. Not to exceed 2 hours of labor.
    • Recurring Fees: None

Call Handling

  • Webex Calling includes features that can be used individually or combined to customize call handling for shared or department phone numbers. Learn more about Call Queue, Auto Attendant, and Hunt Group.
  • Call Queue
    • Callers temporarily wait in a queue, listening to informative messages, until a department representative is available.

  • Auto Attendant
    • Greet callers using menus, recordings with answers to common questions, and route calls to employee phone numbers or voicemail.

  • Hunt Group

    • Use different distribution methods to route calls to users or groups.

  • Charges:

Webex Go

This feature adds your UNLV phone number to your compatible mobile device as a second line. Webex Go users will be able to make and receive calls using their UNLV phone number, over the cellular voice network, using their mobile phone’s built-in call capabilities.

  • Charges:
    • Set up Fee: ½ hour of labor

    • Recurring fees: $7 per user per month

Webex SMS

Webex SMS allows Webex App users to text using their UNLV extension. Please note, text messages are not retained by UNLV when using Webex SMS.

  • Charges:
    • Set up Fee: ¼ hour of labor

    • Recurring fees: $8 per line per month

Webex Calling Definitions

Workspace

A phone that is not assigned to a specific person. This could be a phone used by multiple employees or a conference room phone.

Shared Line

A personal phone number that is added to a different user’s phone. For example, a shared line is Jane’s phone number on line 2 of John’s phone.

Virtual Line

A phone number that is not specifically assigned to a phone or user. For example, a department’s main phone number that exists on several phones. Virtual lines can be added as secondary phone numbers on multiple phones.
