Advocacy, Support, Education Team Against Violence (ASERTAV)

The Advocacy, Support, and Education Response Team Against Violence (ASERTAV) is a collaboration between on and off campus organizations and departments to address interpersonal violence at UNLV.

A key goal of ASERTAV is training faculty and staff to respond to student and peer disclosures of interpersonal violence—domestic and dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking—which is critical to the health of the UNLV community. In addition to teaching, research, and advisement, UNLV faculty and staff often also act as confidants, mentors, and authority figures.

To sign up for a Disclosure Training please visit Human Resource's Staff Development page or to schedule a one-hour workshop for your department or group, please contact Maggie Campe by email or at 702-895-4475. We will provide a handbook and other resources for you to keep.
The disclosure workshop provides:

  • Step-by-step directions for what to do when someone discloses
  • On and off campus resources for survivors of violence and stalking
  • Statistics on interpersonal violence
  • Relevant UNLV regulations and Nevada Revised Statutes code

The effects of trauma can impact a student's ability to continue with studies or an employee's ability to work. Training faculty and staff to be aware of the issues affecting students and each other, along with knowledge of resources available on and off campus, will help keep UNLV healthy and vibrant.

Federally funded by the Office for Violence Against Women, ASERTAV is a collaborative effort between the Jean Nidetch Women's Center and other UNLV entities including the Student Health Center, Counseling and Psychological Services, Police Services, Student Conduct, Resident Life, Title IX Coordinator, General Education Department, Office of Civic Engagement and Diversity, Graduate College, and the Academic Success Center along with community partners and social services including S.A.F.E. House, Safe Nest, Family & Child Treatment, the Rape Crisis Center, Attorney General's Office, Nevada Coalition Against Sexual Violence, Gender Justice Nevada, Nevada Network Against Domestic Violence , and Las Vegas Metro Police Department.
