The UNLV student-run newspaper has been a part of the campus and community since 1955. Written, edited, and produced entirely by students, the paper covers news, features, sports, arts, and opinion pieces that matter to Rebels. Beyond delivering timely and relevant stories, the UNLV Scarlet & Gray Free Press provides hands-on experience in journalism, photography, design, and media production, helping students develop skills that prepare them for professional careers. Dedicated to informing, engaging, and amplifying student perspectives, the UNLV Scarlet & Gray Free Press plays a vital role in promoting dialogue and connection across campus.

This fee, implemented in fall 2023, supports:

• Access to daily student written, UNLV-centered news stories, weekly in print newspapers and digital formats.
• Platform for student advocacy and writing experience, offering hands-on journalism skills for all students.
• On-campus access to writing resources and journalism professionals, providing exclusive real-world application and networking opportunities.

• Personal & Operational Costs - Salary and fringes for professional and student worker positions which support the administrative management and programming of the Student Newspaper, including day-to-day management that keeps the student newspaper operating smoothly and effectively.
• Employs 22 students into 22 different editorial and logistical positions, including section editorial, copy, and distribution services
• Sponsored 8 game-day sports trips and 3 journalism-related conferences
